The Town of Canton offices are located at 85 Summer Street and hours of operation are Monday - Friday 7:30am to 4:00pm. The contact number is 828-648-2363.
To open a utility account you will need to bring into the office a valid driver's license or state ID, your social security number for the application, property address for the account and a copy of your lease if you rent the residence. You will need to fill out an application and there is a $50 service fee. We accept cash, check, money order, credit card (not AMEX or Discover), or debit card. You can fill out an application in the office or it can be found on the Water & Sewer Department page.
You can pay your utility bill at Town Hall either inside during office hours, put it in the drop box in front of the building, mail your payment, or pay by third party either online under Pay My Bill in the to menu or by calling 877-885-7968. We accept cash, check, money order, credit card (not AMEX or Discover), or debit card. You can also sign up to have an automatic withdrawal from your checking or savings account.
Call Town Hall at 828-648-2363 with either a property address or a parcel ID# for information. The Town Code has numerous regulations that must be adhered to in order to receive water and sewer service. Please contact Planning and Zoning before making any plans to see what is allowed, size requirements, and other regulations.
If you see a utility leak or unusual amount of water, damage to water meter/hydrant, manhole cover out of place, or anything of this nature please contact the Town of Canton immediately.

Town of Canton taxes can be paid by mail, in the office (by cash, check, money order, or debit card (no credit cards), third party either online under Pay My Bill in the top menu or by calling 866-917-7368 (with a percentage fee).
Tax bills are mailed in October of every year and are due before January 5th without penalty. If you have questions regarding your taxes please contact Town Hall at 828-648-2363 for more information.
The Town of Canton contracts the collection of household garbage and recycling with Waste Pro and should be set out on the curb every Friday by 7:00am for your normal pick-up. If you have any issues you may contact Waste Pro at 828-684-7790, send an email to garbage@cantonnc.com, or call Canton Town Hall at 828-648-2363.

If you have junk, appliances, and/or yard waste you can submit a work order by following the link in the top menu or you can call Town Hall at 828-648-2363.
IMPORTANT INFO:
If you hire a contractor to remove trees, limbs, or debris, the contractor is responsible for removing the waste. The Town is not equipped for commercial size jobs
The Town WILL NOT pick up any construction debris, it must be taken to the Haywood County landfill at White Oak. For information regarding this please contact 828-627-8042.

Please contact the Planning and Zoning Department at 828-648-2363 to find out what is allowable in the zone you live in as well as, setback requirements etc. Once you get approval you will then receive a letter from the Town of Canton to take to the Haywood County Inspections Department to pull all required permits. (Please note: If you construct anything that is not in compliance with the Town Code of Ordinances and/or did not obtain necessary permits, you will be required to remove the new item at your cost, so please get prior approval).
