The Rest of the Story: The Gra-Ys and Boy Scouts
Canton: The Rest of the Story: The Gra-Ys and Boy Scouts; Connecting the Generations will be presented by Friends of the Canton Area Historical Museum along with the Canton Branch of Haywood County Library on Tuesday, January 30th from 4 until 5:30 at the Canton Library on Pennsylvania Avenue.
The round table discussion will focus on two local youth organizations that prepared Canton’s future leaders as well as her citizens.
Carroll Jones, former Champion engineer and now local author will share about Gra-Y beginnings. He will also tell about his experiences as a Gra-Y member and how it contributed to his life.
Jimmy Clontz, presently a part of McDonalds Corporation as a Deployment Consultant as well as a member of the Center Pigeon Volunteer Fire Department will share about Boy Scouting and his experiences as a Scout while growing up in the Canton area.
“It is our hope that this will provide an opportunity for past Gra-Y members and former Scouts to share their experiences in these two organizations and how both prepared them for their adult years,” said Caroline Ponton, museum curator. “We also want to provide an opportunity for present day Scouts to learn about scouting from the past with its activities for youth and teens in the Canton Area.”
The public is welcome to attend.
