My name is Harris Clark. I am the owner and operator of Farm Tables Etc. I have been a carpenter for fifteen years and a firefighter for ten. I have always enjoyed the creative side of life and working with my hands. Moreover, I have always been deeply drawn to the outdoors, specifically the beautiful pastoral settings found around the Western North Carolina Mountains. Whatever it is inside of me that makes me love the site of a century old farm nestled in a valley somewhere, is probably the same thing that makes me, like so many other people, so fascinated with the unique texture, color, and character of century old reclaimed barn wood.
For a moment, think of the feeling you might get looking at a century old hand hewn tobacco barn as compared to a metal storage building like those found on most farms today. One is fast, efficient, economical and certainly makes sense for the modern farmer trying to make a living. But the other is steeped in history and stories, the character of its carpenter forever encapsulated in its structure and form. The time and effort sacrificed to create these old buildings is meaningful. It has a soul, a character and a presence all its own that could never be perfectly duplicated.
This quality is one that no longer exists in things that we make today. Rustic and reclaimed barn wood furniture retains this quality, the essence of a bygone rural farm life that is the heritage of Western North Carolina and Haywood County. When building furniture from this reclaimed barn wood, the form changes but somehow the soul of the thing remains.
This is the mission of Farm Tables Etc: To build quality custom furniture that not only serves a purpose, but lends a unique character to the space in which it sits. We strive to build furniture that is not just an object, but a centerpiece and a destination within the home. Most importantly, we strive to accomplish this at a value that allows people like our founders, a firefighter and a teacher, to feel confident about purchasing custom furniture for their own homes."
